To Travel or to Photograph

The more ephemeral the lived circumstance is the more uncontrollable it is the desire to register, to document, to photograph everything, detail by detail, to the maximum possible. In the project “Ocupação [Occupation]”, nine among ten artists saw each other consumed by the compulsion of the registration. When the documentation was not the work, it was personal registration. Del Pilar Sallum, there in the first shift, resisted a little when I thought that her work was structured on the action of registering the other artist's manipulations. Pictures of artists' hands building their works. “Now, every picture is a production of evidences”. She argued, saying that the intention was not to document, but to build together. Yes, one thing does not eliminate the other, and the very title of the work, ‘intimate memoirs’ is driven to the need of keeping, to remind, to keep.
